I have to agree with Micheal, after owning this bike for 1 year, 3 months. The first thing changed was the seat. 1 day later the cheapo tires kept going flat, replaced with Kenda's. The stock forks, like Mike said, was too rigid, I bought Rockshox Dart 3 forks and this bike has been so awesome to ride now! 3 months later the stock Alivio Deraillure went bad. I ended up upgrading the whole drivetrain from a 8 speed to a 9 speed, and making it all Sram X7. Replaced Crankset with Truvativ. Now Im looking at better hubs...... Dont get me wrong. Ive had a blast with this bike, and I ride it on mostly trails at least 4 times a week

This is one great bike to get someone started on riding. Just be aware that you're paying for a good frame, not good components. The first things you are going to want to upgrade is the seat, tires and fork. Stock seat comes too narrow for anyone with hips bigger than a 10 year old, and the tires are pretty sketchy in any kind of loose terrain. As bad as the seat and tires are, they are eclipsed by how horrible the RST fork is. It comes stiff enough that the bike may as well have come full rigid to save some money. I turned the preload all the way down and it still refuses to absorb any but the largest of impacts. That being said, everything else comes pretty solid right out of the box. In three months, I've put 300 miles of some of the best singletrack around mixed in with some urban assaults and the bike has given me no problems so far. This bike is a solid buy. After the seat/tires/fork, replace components as they break.

This bike rocks! It is super comfortable, lightweight, and really moves. I upgraded from a department store bike and wish I would have bought my Trek years ago. I mainly ride on trails, this bike allows me to ride for as long as I want without any discomfort. The 4300 is fast and nimble, I have owned for about 6 weeks and have about 250 miles on mine.

Bought the 4300 not to long ago after a long hiatus. I love it! Used to ride GT and gotta say, Im not going back! The components are top notch, shifts like butter! Im a big guy and this thing does not let me down. Just do yourself a favor and get a gel cover for the seat or replace it

This bike is great. It's really fast and it can climb well too. Everything is great except the seat. It's like sitting on a rock. You might want to update it.

I use the product almost everyday. I ride to my mountain biking trial and then go around the trail a few times(trail length is 4.0 miles). The bike is very durable I have smashed the pedals into rocks many times on the trails and went ouch for the bike's sake but it was perfect. I have jumped over logs and over roots along the trail and it is still an awesome bike. However the seat that comes on the bike is so hard that you are going to get a bruised butt for sure.

This is my first mountain bike purchase in years and the 4300 came pretty highly recommended. I've had the bike for nearly 2 months now and am completely addicted to riding it. This bike does a great job on the road yet handles really nicely on rough single tracks. The factory tires are decent for both road and dirt; when hitting a trail after a heavy rain and going through a long stretch of pretty heavy mud the tires bit well and the gear selection made it easy to get through the muck. I really don't have anything to complain about on this bike. So happy that now I'm looking for a road bike and Trek is at the top of my list because of this experience.

I use this bike for adventure racing, about as cheap as possible to get a high end, rugged, durable bike. Go ahead and switch the seat and upgrade the brakes at purchase to save a couple bucks. A little heavy around 34lb but nothing you cant fix by laying off a cheeseburger here and there. Dont change the tires, just keep 55+ psi to avoid flats. Ive crashed more times than I count and it takes it like a tank. Looks rough but i keep up with the Giants and the Specialized.

First I want to thank all the reviews here-it led me to buy this bike. Ive been riding Wallyworlds finest since 2001. People told me repeatedly I needed a better bike. They were right. Today I went to some courses I hadnt been on in a while. This bike climbed hills that I remember walking my other bikes up. There wasnt a hill I couldnt climb. The steering is very accurate, and I went through sand pits with no trouble. The shifting was right on target. My only complaint so far was the very skinny seat, and I had a flat rear tire 1st time out. I put self sealing tubes in it. The tires are very thin! This bike ROCKS and is well worth the money. I shouldave bought this years ago! Thanks Al's!
